===== A message from the 'makahwhaling' discussion list ===== PORT ANGELES ACTIVISTS SCORE BIG! --------------------------------- GOVERNOR LOCKE STUNS PORT ANGELES WITH ANNOUNCEMENT After shadowing Washington Governor Gary Locke all day, members of the Peninsula Citizens for the Protection of Whales- as well as a large crowd of Port Angeles residents- were stunned and overjoyed to hear the Governor today announce a new state investigation into the ongoing Makah whale killings. Sources at the scene reported that Governor Locke said that he would now be asking the Secretary of State, the Attorney General and the Department of Wildlife to look into the Makah matter, especially as it pertains to the resident gray whale population. The governor also publicly stated that he "has always been against the hunt," again surprising and delighting the crowd. Local activists had made it their goal to educate the governor on a variety of topics related to the Makah whale killings, including dangers posed to local resident gray whales and potential violations of Washington state law. Apparently, the governor is a bit more adept at listening to voters than his counterparts on the Clallam County Commission! More details as they become available! WHAT YOU CAN DO TO HELP RIGHT NOW... Write now! Write tomorrow and write often! Let Governor Locke know how pleased you are that he is finally taking a stand against the atrocities taking place in Washington state waters!
