At approximately 6:55am PDT, Makah whalers harpooned, then shot to death, a
California Gray Whale in the waters of the Olympic National Marine
Sanctuary. The whale struggled to escape, leaving a trail of blood in the
water, then died.

The 'Sirenian' of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society arrived on scene
several minutes later, after an all-night effort in Friday Harbor to load
and transport several small boats to the area.
