===== A message from the 'makahwhaling' discussion list ===== FROM WCCA --------------------- 'PENINSULA CITIZENS FOR THE PROTECTION OF WHALES' BRING NEAH BAY TRAFFIC TO A SCREECHING HALT While anti-whaling protestors frustrated Makah whalers on the water, the PCPW held a protest on land, car caravaning to the Makah Nation boundary from Sekiu. Reports are just coming in from that action: Chuck Owens reports that anti-whaling protestors succeeded in blockading Highway 112 at the reservation boundary, creating substantial traffic jams in both directions. Two protestors were arrested and one detained for blocking the road, but were quickly released by the Clallam County Sheriff's Department. Washington Highway Patrol officers were also present. Perhaps the most humorous moment of the day came as a result of this action- A Makah tribal member was arrested for DUI this afternoon while the blockade was in place. He was handed over to the Makah Tribal Police by county law-enforcement officers. The PCPW will be holding another protest tomorrow. They are asking ALL those opposed to the Makah whale hunt to meet them at Olson's Resort in Sekiu at 1:00pm for another car caravan. Please attend if you can! ***** REQUEST FROM SEA SHEPHERD ----------------------------------------------------- The Sea Shepherd Conservation Society has urgently requested for anyone with the following items to please send them (or drop them off) to the 'Sirenian' at Sekiu. They need 'Smart Cards' for their Panasonic digital camera, in order to continue documentation of this illegal hunt. In addition, they are also very much in need of CR-123A lithium camera batteries. If you can assist, please contact Sea Shepherd at (310) 301-7325 for further details. *****
