Date: Saturday, April 13
Time: Noon (PDT)
Place: Worldwide

Anti-whaling protestors will stage a worldwide protest against the illegal
Makah whale hunt this coming Saturday. The Makah whale hunt, condoned and
sponsored by the U.S. government, violates U.S. law, and has never been
approved by the International Whaling Commission. From Washington State to
California, Canada to Germany, like-minded individuals and groups will stand
together to protest the continuing illegal policy of the U.S. government.

In 1997, the United States claimed a quota was given them by the
International Whaling Commission (IWC), allowing the Makah Tribe to resume
whaling under the guise of "aboriginal subsistence." In fact, no such quota
was given, and the Makah Tribe's alleged subsistence "need" has never been
accepted by any international authority, including the IWC.

Since the mid-1990s, the U.S. government has spent nearly $5 million to
further the whaling ambitions of the Makah Tribe. Even as U.S. tax dollars
continue to fund the whale-killing, the Makah Tribe refuses to renounce
plans to resume commercial whaling, and the U.S. government refuses to
address this issue.

This action by the U.S. has severely undermined its credibility in opposing
worldwide efforts to resume commercial whaling, and has resulted in numerous
legal challenges, including the successful 'Metcalf v. Daley' case, as well
as the pending 'Anderson v. Evans' action. The U.S. simply refuses to
acknowledge that they are acting outside of the law. Saturday's protest is
meant to spotlight the illegal actions of the U.S. government.

Protests will occur at noon in Sekiu, Washington, Vancouver, Canada,

California and Germany. Contact information is below for each
scheduled protest. We encourage you to contact these principals at your
convenience.

Digital images and further information will be posted on each group's
web-site, as well as at www.safepassing.org
