NEWS
========================================

The Peninsula Citizens for the Protection of Whales have been protesting the hunt nonstop since day one, hosting demonstrations and rallies to protect the whales.  Now they need your help.  They need donations for food, headquarters rent, gas, and all the other thousands of day-to-day costs.  Any amount would be greatly appreciated.  You can also purchase t-shirts with the PCPW logo for $20 to show your support for the whales.

SAFE PASSING
========================================
In October 1997 NOAA made an agreement with the Makah that no permits would be issued to photograph gray whales anywhere in Washington State without approval from the Makah tribe.  Do the Makah now own all gray whales passing by Washington?  Their treaty does not specify gray whales, perhaps they also own killer whales and humpbacks.  In open defiance of this rule, Safe Passing's picture of the week is of a whale just outside of the reservation, taken on October 1, 1999.

UPCOMING EVENTS
========================================

Peninsula Citizens for the Protection of Whales (PCPW)
----------------------------------------
Saturday October 9th at 1:00PM, PCPW will be protesting the whale hunt.  Meet at the Sekiu rock (on highway 112) and bring signs.  They will be driving onto the reservation.  Unfortunately someone's car inevitably breaks down or runs out of gas, blocking cars from entering or leaving the reservation.  We apologize in advance for the inconvenience should this inadvertently happen again.

American Cetacean Society
----------------------------------------
The Puget Sound chapter of ACS is having its first public general meeting on Tuesday October 19th from 7:30 to 8:30pm in the large auditorium at the Seattle Aquarium. Alberta "Binki" Thompson will be the speaker.
For more information contact Joe: acs@cetaceanresearch.com

Trial Date Change
----------------------------------------
Jake & Josh's trial has been moved to October 25th at 9AM at the Port Angeles courthouse.
